"Patriotism is not short, frenzied outbursts of emotion, but the tranquil and steady dedication of a lifetime." I agree wholeheartedly that it is the dedication of a lifetime that defines true patriotism.  You all have given not only your time, dedication and effort, but—most importantly—your very being to the protection and advancement of this great country. You work tirelessly for the rights of the veterans who serve our country, while conducting the nation’s finest civic training to instill young future leaders with the knowledge, understanding and wisdom to govern this country.

VFW DISPATCH – October 2014

h_border

VFW continues to fight on Capitol Hill for the rights and benefits you’ve earned and sacrificed for. Last month, more than 70 members of the VFW Legislative Committee met for the fall legislative conference in Washington, D.C. They pressed members of Congress on the important issues like receiving adequate health care and avoiding sequestration, and those were just a couple of the major topics of concern we brought to their doorstep.

It may take time, but the VFW won’t stop fighting until Congress fulfills its promise to make the necessary changes the VA needs to properly care for all veterans.

You fought to protect our nation, and now it’s our nation’s turn to protect you. Thank you for your dedication and steadfast support of our organization.

Respectfully,

Your VFW Membership Team

VA Braces for a New Front in the Agent Orange Battle

A group of post-Vietnam War veterans say their illnesses are tied to the herbicide. So far, Veterans Affairs isn’t buying it.

During the Vietnam War, C-123s were used to spray the herbicide Agent Orange. A group of veterans believe their illnesses—which range from diabetes to cancer—are tied to their time on the planes but have had little luck getting their disability claims granted. Read more on their fight here.
